Monte Esports Rises: Academy Stars Gizmy and Ryu Promoted to Fill Big Shoes
Monte Esports has elevated Jack "Gizmy" von Spreckelsen and Gytis "ryu" Glušauskas from their developmental team, Monte Gen, stepping in to fill the void left by the departure of key players Alexander "br0" Bro and Viktor "sdy" Orudzhev.
Denys "dance" Yashniev, the Director of Esports for Monte, announced the move on X/Twitter, emphasizing that after considering various player configurations, the organization believes promoting their academy players is the most strategic choice for the current phase. The decision comes in the wake of significant roster changes, with sdy exiting by mutual consent and br0 moving to Astralis. These changes stripped Monte of pivotal talents, including their standout player and a crucial figure in maintaining the team's top-10 global ranking status.
Both Gizmy and ryu are homegrown talents, having been integral to Monte Gen since its formation in the previous year. Gizmy, originating from the UK competitive scene, has made a mark with Viperio and even helped them reach the BLAST.tv Paris Major Europe RMR last year. He also temporarily joined Monte's main lineup for two matches during the recent PGL Copenhagen Major Europe RMR, contributing to a victory against Nexus.
ryu, on the other hand, comes from the Benelux region, with a history in teams like LowLandLions and Genk. This promotion marks his entry into the higher echelons of Counter-Strike competition.
With the new roster, Monte has already competed in two matches in ESL Challenger League Season 47, securing a victory against PERA following a defeat to SAW.
The updated Monte lineup now includes:
- Volodymyr "Woro2k" Veletniuk (Ukraine)
- Sergiy "DemQQ" Demchenko (Ukraine)
- Szymon "kRaSnaL" Mrozek (Poland)
- Gytis "ryu" Glušauskas (Lithuania)
- Jack "Gizmy" von Spreckelsen (United Kingdom)
With Sergey "lmbt" Bezhanov from Ukraine serving as the coach, Monte is poised to navigate through this transitional period in the competitive CS:GO landscape.
