Resident Evil 4 Mod Transports Remake's Best Addition to the Original Game

Denne artikel er tilgængelig på følgende sprog

One of the standout features in the Resident Evil 4 remake is its amazing Sekiro-style parry system, which elevates the already legendary combat to new heights. Now, thanks to modders kreedyk and qingsheng, that impressive feature has been reintroduced to the original game.

The parry system in the RE4 remake is just a part of the larger "New Trainer Introduction UHD" mod. This comprehensive mod offers various additions, including bringing exclusive weapons from the Mercenaries mode into the main game and even allowing players to swap character models, such as playing as Ashley or HUNK. However, my main focus is on that satisfying knife parry.

Installing and using the mod may require a bit more effort than a typical mod, but it's not overly complicated. I personally chose to install it manually instead of using the "Fluffy Manager." Here's a quick guide for installation:

  1. Copy the "BIO4" and "Bin32" files from the desired addons (I selected the "Main Files" and "qingsheng dll") into the installation folder of Resident Evil 4 located in steamapps/common.
  2. You can also place the trainer executable in the same folder.
  3. To access features like the model swap and remake parry, first run Resident Evil 4, then switch to the trainer executable using Alt+Tab, and select the desired features.

I checked the box for the "Remake Parry," loaded into the second village area, and there it was—the Parryman was ready for action. By pulling out your dagger with the left trigger or spacebar in sync with an enemy's attack, you can execute a successful parry just like in the remake. However, the timing window feels more forgiving compared to the remake, resembling the counterattacks in The Witcher 3 rather than the strict requirements of REM4KE.

Nevertheless, witnessing the parry system in action is still incredibly satisfying, and it's something I'll definitely make use of in my next playthrough of Resident Evil 4. You can find more of kreedyk's projects on NexusMods, while qingsheng regularly shares Resident Evil 4 mod content on YouTube.
