Two highly anticipated video games were released simultaneously last week, with Spider-Man 2 confidently taking the top spot in the UK physical charts after the weekend. However, as reported by GamesIndustry.biz, this week's charts show a shift in favor of Mario. Super Mario Bros Wonder now occupies the first position, while Spider-Man 2 has fallen to second place.

Data from GfK, reflecting sales of physical copies of games, revealed that sales of Super Mario Wonder decreased by 55% compared to the opening weekend, while Spider-Man 2 experienced a steeper drop of 69%. This allowed Mario to claim the top position in this week's charts.

It's worth noting that these charts only cover physical sales, and data regarding digital sales have not been factored in yet.

As a result, Spider-Man 2 now holds the fourth position among the best-selling physical games in the UK for 2023, while Super Mario Wonder occupies the fifth spot.

In other chart news, EA Sports FC retains the third position, surpassing the new entry, Metal Gear Sold: Master Collection Vol 1, which debuted at fourth place. The only other new entry in the top 10 is EA Sports UFC 5, securing the seventh position.

Nintendo reports that Super Mario Bros Wonder is the fastest-selling Mario game in the history of Europe.

Meanwhile, Sony claims that Spider-Man 2 is the fastest-selling game from PlayStation Studios in history, with 2.5 million copies sold worldwide within the first 24 hours of release. The last time Sony declared a game its "fastest-selling" was with God of War: Ragnarök, which purportedly sold 5.1 million copies in its first week (with no sales data provided for the first 24 hours).
