How to Unlock and Access Nuevo Paraíso (Mexico) in Red Dead Redemption
In Red Dead Redemption, the game’s map is divided into three main regions, with some areas locked until players progress through certain story missions. One of the largest and most sought-after regions is Nuevo Paraíso, a Mexican territory located to the south. If players try to access it early, they’ll encounter broken bridges blocking the way. This guide covers the steps required to unlock Nuevo Paraíso and explore Mexico in Red Dead Redemption.
How to Access Nuevo Paraíso (Mexico) in Red Dead Redemption
To enter the Mexican region of Nuevo Paraíso, players need to progress through the main storyline and complete two key missions: "The Assault on Fort Mercer" and "We Shall Be Together in Paradise." These missions will guide John Marston from New Austin into Nuevo Paraíso.
Step 1: Complete "The Assault on Fort Mercer" Mission
"The Assault on Fort Mercer" is the 24th main story mission in Red Dead Redemption. In this mission, John Marston assembles a team, including Marshal Leigh Johnson, Eli, Jonah, West Dickens, Irish, and Seth Briars, to attack Fort Mercer and capture Bill Williamson.
The mission begins with the crew hiding in West Dickens' armored coach, leading to an intense shootout at Fort Mercer. John eventually uses a Gatling gun to fend off Williamson's gang. Toward the end of the mission, the team learns from a captured gang member that Bill Williamson has fled to Mexico, setting John on a course to pursue him.
Step 2: Take the Raft to Nuevo Paraíso in "We Shall Be Together in Paradise"
"We Shall Be Together in Paradise" is the 25th main story mission. In this mission, John and Nigel West Dickens team up with Irish to secure a raft that will ferry John across the river into Mexican territory.
The mission quickly turns into a gunfight, with John defending the raft as it makes its way to the Mexican border. Once they reach Mexico, Irish provides John with a horse, enabling him to travel deeper into Nuevo Paraíso, including the capital, Escalera. From this point, players are free to explore the Mexico region in Red Dead Redemption.
